The Garden Room
The Garden Room is our 3-day a week classroom. (T/W/Th) It is a pre-k classroom for children going to kindergarten or moving to the Rainbow Room in the following year. Children must be at least 4 by October 31 to be enrolled in the Garden Room.
Like the Ocean and Rainbow Rooms, this classroom features centers or stations. All of our centers are open during center time and the children are required to try each one. You will see a dramatic play area with dress up clothes. There is a book center for browsing and relaxing. We have a writing table and a math/science table where activities are available for exploration or a teacher-planned activity. The big carpet is for circle time or large group games. The area with blocks and small toys includes an easel for painting and many other art supplies
A typical morning schedule in the Garden Room begins with center time. Next the children go to the playground or our indoor play area, followed by a restroom break and circle time. During circle time, the children have stories and participate in large group activities. This is a time when we work on speaking in front of people, taking turns to speak, listening to the one speaking and lengthening attention spans as well practicing academic skills as a large group. Nut-free snacks, provided by parents, come next and then children return to the carpet for free play until parents arrive for pick up.
Learning social/emotional skills is a big part of our curriculum throughout the whole day. The children learn important life skills like taking turns, talking through problems and being a good friend. Some of the many kindergarten readiness skills we work on are, name writing, recognizing the alphabet/numbers, learning letter sounds, patterning, sequencing and recognizing quantities.
Teachers select and plan activities for the centers and circle time based on the Ohio Early Learning Standards. Our curriculum is designed to prepare the children for kindergarten. Each classroom plans their own themes and we have one Bible theme per month. A calendar is emailed monthly to families with the themes and special dates or events.
Something that sets Child of God apart from other preschools is that we are a Christian preschool. Throughout the year,we emphasize general truths about the Bible such as God made everything, He made you special and He loves you. We also teach that God wants us to be kind to everyone and He will take care of us. The Bible theme of the month is emphasized during the same week that we have chapel. In addition, the classrooms have prayer time, Bible verses are read and the children pray before eating their snacks each day.

Children must be at least 3 years old and completely toilet trained to attend. Enrollment can happen at any point in the school year when there is space available.
In the Ocean Room, as with our other classrooms, we feature centers or stations. You will see a dramatic play area with dress up clothes. There is a book center for browsing and relaxing. Next the children go to the playground or our indoor play area, followed by a restroom break and nut-free snack, supplied by parents.
