Child of God Preschool is an outreach ministry of, and is located in, Newark First United Methodist Church. We are a Christian preschool serving children ages 2 1/2 through 5 years.
Child of God Preschool was started in the fall of 1998, and is governed by a Board of Directors and a Director on-site. We now have 10 staff members and 55-60 children enrolled in 5 classes. We are a non-profit preschool, so we can keep our class sizes small for more individual attention.
We take pride in our program and we feel we offer a quality preschool experience at an affordable price. If, after viewing the information on this website, you have further questions or would like to schedule a tour, please contact our preschool director, Nancy Higgins (director(at)childofgodpreschool.org, 740-349-7020).
MISSION STATEMENT
We are committed to providing a safe nurturing environment that encourages the development of the whole child. We provide opportunities for a child to grow socially, emotionally, intellectually, physically, and spiritually.
OUR VALUES
Christian morals and values have an important role in our daily curriculum and throughout our programming:
- The children are encouraged to pray before snack time and lunch.
- The teachers include Bible stories or Bible verses throughout their lesson plans.
- We teach that Jesus made each one special, that he loves us, and that he wants us to be kind to each other.
- We have a chapel service once a month in the sanctuary of the church. The children meet there upon arrival to the preschool, and one of the First Church staff leads a short devotion and prayer time with the children.
OUR PHILOSOPHY
The most important goal of our curriculum is that children become enthusiastic learners. To this end, through our curriculum, we encourage children to be active and creative explorers who are not afraid to try out their ideas and to think their own thoughts.
- Learning requires active thinking and experimenting to find out how things work. By encouraging such thinking and experimentation, we are teaching them how to learn. This skill will serve them, not only in while they are in preschool, but throughout their lives.
- By allowing children to learn in ways that are best for them, we are helping them develop good habits and good attitudes toward learning that will make a difference throughout their lives.
